OUR VISION ~ WHAT WE DO

k&dKEN AND DIANA HARBOUR ~ BEING THE CHANGE IN A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY.  28 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN ASIA

Thank you for showing interest in the Save The Daughters Project by the Barnabas Fellowship. I’m Ken Harbour, President of the ministry and this is my wife Diana. Diana and I have been a team for over thirty-six years now and find life is always full of adventure.

We make our home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, but like to consider the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina as special places in our personal history.
In the 1970’s we were thinking of church planting and Bible translation, but didn’t want to go where others had already been.

After a brief stint in seminary, we struck out on our own with an idea we called “TENTMAKING” ~ little did we know it would become a recognized way of sharing the Gospel, but we were plowing fresh soil back in the 80’s and 90’s.

Our initial goal was to get to China, but most of the world (65%) was restricted to normal missions efforts so I started looking for a different way to get into restricted access countries in Asia. And after a short but successful career in corporate sales, we found ourselves working with people from a variety of nations.

We were accomplishing this as early as 1985…trying to present to churches and interested individuals here in the United States that there were really great opportunities in partnering with INDIGENOUS groups already in some of these locations. As a Pastor and Teacher, we never lost our local vision but at the same time, we started raising funds for very strategic projects in multiple countries that were beyond all we had imagined. It has been our rare opportunity to serve and advance the Kingdom of God in multiple nations.

It was hard work.We have had a hand in planting hundreds of churches, seen Scripture translations accomplished, been fruitful in touching orphans and widows, initiating micro-business ventures for Christians and a score of other projects in a number of countries. We’ve focused our efforts on the Himalayan Mountain Range that runs through Nepal, India, Tibet, and Pakistan!

Since 2009 we have cultivated and put in place one of the most effective means to deter the trafficking of young Nepali girls from those who would abduct and sell them to the devastating sex-trade in India. Our Rescue Team two level approach trains and sends men and women to go to rural areas to give teaching presentations for young girls and boys, families, and whole villages about the dangers and deceptions of the trafficking trade. Then, we research and implement the best ways to empower the destitute and to encourage and lift them from a life of despair, with a focus on the women and girls. This approach HELPS PREVENT any trafficking before it happens. It’s the ultimate prevention strategy for village people.

Through donations prior to this initiative, we have been able to help impoverished children and orphans in the Himalayan Mountain Range and North India with basic necessities that we ourselves can take for granted ~ things like food, clothing, shelter, and even an education. Things that cost pennies, but are worth a fortune to those in need. And they are provided in a family atmosphere of love and compassion. We’ve provided tailoring training to the motivated, water for small villages, medical assistance, livestock husbandry projects, micro-enterprise income-producing opportunities, and more to the struggling. And we’ve provided helpless widows in the persecuted communities with ways they can empower themselves.
